Abstract

The universe makes no sense to humans. Its purposelessness is an opportunity to generate human purpose. Humanity on Earth is on the verge of collapse and only starting to comprehend sustainability. It is time that we imagine new systems and new ways to reach them. And to do that, I believe that something is missing. Something we could use to gain energy and information to tackle the transformation of human systems towards their attunement or harmonization with natural systems. In other words, the comprehension of viable human existence. That thing is a particle of conscience, a particle of love, or a unit of motivation. This particle is called the Honon.

Context | The Emergence of the Honon

Life on Earth exists. Or you could argue that it has one purpose: To make more life. Indefinitely. How? By automatically and inevitably regulating the climate of the planet it emerged on. Completely against entropy. It strives to generate the ideal conditions for more life to exist. For example, one of those conditions on Earth is that water is liquid. This is impressive and complex because water is liquid only from about 0 to 100 degrees Celsius, but temperatures throughout the universe vary much, much more.

Life moved to many places on the planet; for example, on land, it concentrated in “forests,” These are full of trees that connect the soil with the earth's atmosphere and with the air both nature and humans share. Those trees in those forests significantly influence the planet’s water because they make it rain. They move water and moisture through the atmosphere everywhere on that planet, particularly inside deep continental land where little water exists. The complementarities and combinations of life on land and water triggered the “oldest situation” or the “climate juggle.” That delicate but very stable condition of a temperature of about 17 degrees celsius is ideal for life as we know it.

Life needs a powerful ally: a civilization with minimum requirements to fulfill its simple purpose. One that can jump from intra-planetary life to inter-galactic life, which can give a lift to Life on Earth. At some point in time, that life or “nature,” in that habitable zone, provided the emergence of humans. And we started evolving. Humans also had a purpose: to be aware of life and life’s purpose. We are part of life, alongside zebras, cats, ants, fungi, cockroaches, fish, plants, and insects. But we are also conscious of it and the universe.

We, humans, are a species that call ourselves “intelligent,” but in reality, the original purpose was: to be “conscious.” That was the whole point of having language. The purpose of being conscious was meant to become the ultimate complementarity of life on Earth. This complementarity is still possible. However, the extra-natural “ego” was inevitable and necessary for humans to exist. It was a fundamental condition to become an individual with intentions. This is exactly what life needs: an individual with intentions. However, intentions are not enough. These need to be accompanied and nudged towards good intentions for life on Earth. But even good intentions are subjective.

Humans evolved through time with that extra natural ego that triggered the forgetfulness of the initial purpose. Forgetfulness is an inevitable consequence of having a conscience. You know, conscious beings are filled with scotomas. Scotomas are holes in memory that manage to override vision and perception—constantly changing the views of the world.

The human ego grew and became out of balance. Humans lost the perception of life as intelligent alongside the human purpose of being conscious of life. We thought we were “intelligent” instead of “conscious.” We believed that humans were the only intelligent species and lost respect for any intelligence we did not understand. Being more conscious was secondary to being more intelligent.

By the time these humans populated the entire planet, that forgetfulness on a societal scale, that cultural scotoma, led this form of life to identify itself with a different and distorted purpose. The purpose that humans assumed was oriented to the exclusive benefit of their human life form and not of life itself. This was the shift from eco-systems to ego-systems that happened in human history. This purpose was a myopic and closely linked with the flow of money or capital. Douglas Adams described it as follows:

“Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun.

Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-two million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.

This planet has or rather had a problem, which was this: most of the people on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn’t the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy.

And so the problem remained; lots of the people were mean, and most of them were miserable, even the ones with digital watches.

Many were increasing of the opinion that they’d all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. And some said that even the trees had been a bad move and that no one should ever have left the oceans.

And then, one Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change,…”

After a long time, closer to what we call the present: there is a resurgence of identification with the original purpose of humans: being conscious of life. That acknowledgment came to be because of: the changing climate, the ongoing pandemics, the widening unsustainable socio-economical gaps generating complex violence ripples, etc. All of these have something in common, and they are very complex situations leading to very dystopic realities. But unfortunately, the -short term- human purpose had no way to foresee them nor prevent them, even if we tried our best.

In a nutshell, the conflict between purposes was detrimental to life itself, and some humans understood that this threatened their very existence as a species. Many humans comprehended this wake-up call in many places—the gap between how things were and how they could be, woke many of us up. For example, via our dreams within a more harmonic existence with life on Earth. These humans understood that when one person dreams, it is only a dream, but when many people dream the same dream, that dream is called reality. Suddenly it was clear that new realities were possible.

However, the physical construction of those new realities required incredible amounts of energy and information. And don't forget the amount of collective complementary work. The need for it became a common sentiment in human societies: a common need, a common struggle, a common challenge.

Eventually, many people began to feel a new particle of consciousness: The Honon. It allowed them to orient their short 100 years of existence towards identifying with the original purpose of life and the human species while working towards it. This particle will lead them to many achievements, starting by understanding a collective feeling of nihilist optimism. This sentiment was compassion evolving. And this is the start of a story about how that particle came to the present.
